For brand owners who want to grow their online sales
Why hold an unconference?
Upcoming Event
eVendLab 2024
Central London Venue
13 June, 2024
How many times have you sat in a conference listening to someone droning on about a topic that has no relevance to you or your business? Or worse, delivering a thinly disguised sales pitch for a service you don’t want and can’t afford?
Us too.
We’ve run businesses in e-commerce and beyond, and we’ve been to many conferences. Too many. In our experience, the best and most valuable part was always meeting like-minded people with similar challenges, and hearing what they were doing to build their businesses. We would be sharing experiences and tips, ideas for growth or for solving problems. Then we’d be interrupted by a call to go back into the Sleep Chamber to hear the next talk…
When we heard about unconferences, we realised it was all the things we liked about conferences and none of the stuff we didn’t.
And then we thought about how, when we ran e-commerce businesses, we felt very isolated. We were left to work things out on our own, with very little help.
That’s why eVendLab was born. To bring people together to learn from each other, discuss common challenges and build a community. We hope you come and enjoy it and take away a hatful of ideas to make your business thrive.
How an unconference works in practice is what makes it stand out from other conferences you have attended:
The first order of business is setting the agenda for the day. At the start of the day, every eVendlab attendee will have an opportunity to propose a session topic. The session someone proposes can be something they planned in advance, a challenge they would like to discuss with peers or a topic they would simply like to learn more about. Everyone will then vote on the proposed ideas and the sessions that receive the most interest will be allocated an appropriate-sized room and a time slot on the agenda.
Although there will likely be some sessions proposed in the morning that have been planned in advance, most sessions will be proposed without a pre-planned structure or expectation. This offers a great opportunity to chat about new ideas or challenges you face with peers across the e-commerce sector. Be prepared to both listen and talk – your own experiences will be of value to others in the room.
During the day there will likely be a lot of moving about. This is because one of the principles of unconference is the “Law of Two Feet”. This means that if a session doesn’t inspire attendees and they are not contributing, they should get up and find a different one. Since there will be multiple sessions running at the same time, participants will be able to move freely through different spaces. Faces will change and room dynamics will shift, but with this comes new energy and insights to each session.
